you usually get yellow teeth from drinking coffee tea or hot cocoa if you smoke yot teeth are yellow and a chipped tooth you may have bitten into something and not know it

Reply:well the shade could b the natural shade of ur teeth, or u might not b keepin it well, or u might b takin foods n drinks tat causes staining. n broken tip could b attrition of ur teeth or it could hve broken whn biting any hard stuff or if u hve any habits such as bruxism or clenching. every1 can say different things over here on the net, but its best to seek ur dentist advice cos he would b able to give u more accurate info by examining ur condition. rest of us dont knw ur condition without havin a look at it.
Reply:well , it may be natural yellow or it may be your wrong activity to handle them . if u have bad habits ie. biting hard things or not brushing properly or eating such things badly which r senstive to teeths , avoid these bad habits , be allert and brush ur teeths properly twice a day %26amp; make a wash ur mouth after every meal to make ur teeths healthy %26amp; strong. if possible massage ur teeth with salt mixed in mustard oil once a week .
broken tips may be accidental case or due to bad activity or eating hard substances , so avoid such activities.if possible contact a good dentist for assistance but overall improve ur daily routine with the suggestions given to u .

Broken Tooth...?
I was playing basketball with my friend, he jumped to shoot, I jumped to pack(block)...
My elbow collided with his front tooth (left one from my point of view), and it broke in half.. His tooth kind of scratched my elbow...
So we found his tooth on the ground, my elbow is bleeding... It was broken in half and I don%26#039;t think there was much blood on his broken tooth that was still in the gum... He think its a permanent tooth...
Will the dentist be able to fix his tooth so it stays on? Like with porcelain... Because when I broke my tooth biking a chip came out and they covered it up with porcelain.. Will the same happen to him?... (He is 13..)

You, on the other hand, should make sure you put antibiotic ointment on your arm because a human mouth is full of germs and a scratch or cut from someone%26#039;s teeth can cause you some major problems if not taken care of properly.

Reply:depends, if it is permenant, the doc will adhere either porcelain or composite (tooth colored filling) onto the tooth. if the tooth is knocked clean off in half, the chances of it being adhered back together are slim to none. your friend may need a root canal prior to having it fixed. no biggie though, since it wasn%26#039;t an infected tooth it won%26#039;t be as bad as i%26#039;m sure he thinks it is. root canals only hurt when the tooth is infected (because of Ph levels and anesthetic not taking). but he does need to go to the doc if he can see pink tissue (pulp or root) on the edge of his tooth... this could be extremely painful for him. make sure you get checked out too since your skin was broken as well. if your friend has a health condition such as hepititis you have a chance of contracting it.

i have a few broken teeth. i am not sure what caused it. i brush my teehth about 4 times a day. it started 1 year after i had my 4th child. can i just get a cap or do i have to get a crown. cant i get partial dentures. which one is better. i dont want and cant afford expensive procedure.

Reply:Caps and crowns are the same thing. And they are not cheap. But you will have them for many many years. My first ones are 25 years old.
For a fill in denture they pull the broken ones and make one or two to fill the space and they attach over the next solid molar on each side.
I have one (a triple) that fills in for one that was pulled and is permanently attached to a molar on each side. The I have about 9 other crowns.
A crown is made by grinding down the remainder of the tooth into a peg and a tooth is made to cement to it. They look just like yours.
Usually a Dentist will take payment. I made payments for years.
Do your family members have poor quality teeth? Dental quality runs in a family. Brushing your teeth 10 times a day will not make them stronger.
Swishing with Hydrogen Peroxide at least once a day will keep your gums healthy. I have swished and brushed with it for 40 years, I have great gums and (thanks to crowns) OK teeth.
Reply:This is something that you need to talk to your dentist about as to what needs to be done to get them fixed. But I can tell you one thing that I would not do! I have had this done it the past and IF I had the chance to do it again, I would not do it. Do not get partial dentures for any reason what so ever. That is the worst thing that anybody could ever do, that is my opinion. Why you ask? Well here is why...I got mine (lower) several years ago. As you know, the partial has to be attached to something in your mouth to hold them in. They are attached to your other teeth with wires. Well over a period of time, with the wire moving most of the time, it %26quot;wears%26quot; on the good teeth, which in turn wears them out. Then you have to get them fixed as well. Like I said, I had a partial and have had to get the others that it was connected to it fixed about once every 2 or 3 years. I am now loosing those 2 teeth because of the partial. I have heard many people saying that this happens to them as well. Even the dentist will tell you the same thing as I have now. I have not wore my partial in several years now. After my dentist told me this, I took it out and never wore it again. I can eat what I want to as well with out the partial. I can%26#039;t speak for the upper, just the lower.

Crown for broken tooth shard?

Recently I found a shard of broken tooth in my mouth, very small... So I went to the dentist, and he did a series of fillings, none of which soothed the pain in my teeth, my dentist said that I grind at night and crushed the teeth, he doesn%26#039;t really know if its really fractured(he just says that its most likely that), and he said that I should get a temp crown. It is pretty painful, but the teeth is still perfectly intact, is there another way?

To put crown on a tooth that is possibly fractured is like putting the cart before the horse. If the tooth is fractured it could either:

Recently I found a shard of broken tooth in my mouth, very small... So I went to the dentist, and he did a series of fillings, none of which soothed the pain in my teeth, my dentist said that I grind at night and crushed the teeth, he doesn%26#039;t really know if its really fractured(he just says that its most likely that), and he said that I should get a temp crown. It is pretty painful, but the teeth is still perfectly intact, is there another way?

So, I fell on my front teeth(-_-) and they got pushed inwards. I have braces so my ortho fixed that. But I took some x-rays and found out I have a broken root on my front teeth. What are the possible things doctors can do, besides pull it out?

So I%26#039;ve realized I%26#039;m having this recurrent dream where I%26#039;m doing something entirely innocuous and mundane when I start to realize my molars are cracking apart.
So I poke my finger in my mouth and wiggle my molars around and realize, wow, yes, they%26#039;re falling apart, and wow, here%26#039;s my right lower wisdom tooth in my hand right here.
I bite down even gently and I can feel my teeth continue to break apart.
I panic and wonder what to do, but feel reassured that I could always get implants later on if I had to.
The others around me don%26#039;t seem to react with the same shock that I do. My teeth keep crumbling and falling out, and soon I have small handfuls of broken tooth pieces.
I generally either wake up or switch to another dream sequence at this point, just before losing the last of my teeth.

Broken tooth because of old filling - what is the process now?
I%26#039;m a very nervous patient. A little history if you care: My childhood dentist filled many non-existent cavities then committed suicide. He did this with many patients. As a result I have many overfilled teeth where the fillings are now 20 years old or more and I have been told that I will need crowns or something to fix them all. A couple days ago a piece of one of these teeth broke off (top rear). I went to the store and bought temporary filling to fill the space so that nothing would get inside but I%26#039;m very nervous about going back to the dentist. Every time I go it%26#039;s very painful and it%26#039;s always some big bad news. Can a dentist or someone who has had a similar experience with a broken tooth because of an old filling tell me exactly what is likely to happen when I go in?

If a part of your tooth fractured off, there are a few possible treatment options. I%26#039;m assuming you have metal (amalgam) fillings, since you mentioned these were done 20yrs ago, and amalgam was the way to go back then. The large metal filling in this broken tooth will need to be removed (drilled out). You will have to be numbed for this (yes, a shot). If you are so anxious about having dental work done, ask your dentist to prescribe you some versed before your appointment. It%26#039;s a benzodiazapine, much like valium, but unlike valium it lasts just a couple of hours. It will really mellow you out for your appointment. If you don%26#039;t want to be drugged, you can opt for nitrous oxide (laughing gass) that should help with your anxiety somewhat (though this admittedly doesn%26#039;t work for everyone).
Your options after the old filling is removed are to have the tooth crowned, which will likely require a %26quot;buildup%26quot; as well. A buildup is a filling material that %26quot;builds up%26quot; the missing tooth structure to help support the crown. You may also opt for an onlay or another large filling to replace the old one, possibly a pin-retained amalgam or a large tooth-colored filling. The crown or the onlay are the best bets for longevity. The fillings would be the quick-fixes.
Depending on whether or not there is any decay underneath the old filling (which may have contributed to the tooth fracturing) you may also need to have endodontic therapy (a root canal). If that%26#039;s an option, honestly I%26#039;d opt to just have the tooth extracted and an implant placed, though the healing time will be at least 6 months for an implant before you can get a fake tooth placed on top of the implant.
You really just need to get yourself to a dentist to evaluate that tooth. Once you%26#039;re there you%26#039;ll know much more. All I can do is give you my best guess as to what you%26#039;ll need.

The kitten will loose these teeth anyway and as long as you didn%26#039;t break it vertically (up and down towards the gum line) or up high enough for it to bleed,, it will be fine. It is better though not to force these pills down a small cat or kittens throat. It can cause more stress and damage than just a broken tooth. The kitten will loose these teeth anyway and as long as you didn%26#039;t break it vertically (up and down towards the gum line) or up high enough for it to bleed,, it will be fine. It is better though not to force these pills down a small cat or kittens throat. It can cause more stress and damage than just a broken tooth. Help, broken tooth - unsure of what dentist will do?
I need some help. I have two teeth that seem to be broke in the back of my mouth. One on the lower right side, and one on my upper left side and no they%26#039;re not my wisdom teeth. Anyway, half of the side of them are broken off, so its really only half a tooth. Lately I think I%26#039;ve been getting food stuck in them or whatever because it seems that I keep getting abscesses and to be honest I%26#039;m really sick of it. They never were a problem until this past Fall season. Normally I never had any pain from my teeth, especially those too. But so far since the Fall I%26#039;ve had 3 abscesses on my gums. Two in the same spot on the right side and one on the left side, now I%26#039;m finally debating on going to a dentist and I%26#039;m not really sure what they would do. Would they pull them? Or are there other answers? I think the reason as to why I%26#039;ve been holding off going to the dentist because I really am kind of afraid of dentists. So what do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks!

I had a root canal procedure done that day. They numb the area so you don%26#039;t feel any pain. After they complete the root canal, they put a crown, or fake tooth, on and you are good to go. This was my experience, and I thought the symptom sounded quite similar to yours.
My advice would be to make an appointment with a dentist, so as to prevent any further decay or damage to your teeth.

Reply:i had the same problem as you! i left it and left as i am petrified of the dentist, eventually i was in so much pain with infection and an abscess that i had nooo choice but to go and they gave me antibiotics and then made an appointment to have it out. i asked for sedation when i had my tooth out, as they dont put you to sleep anymore, well not in the uk anyway. they gave me valium to make feel calm. and it was great all over within a few seconds. and the valium was really nice lol. i wouldnt worry if you are in the uk, ask your dentist to sedate you, as you are so nervous. good luck.
oh and it cost me 35quid

The actual root canal was fine but I%26#039;m experiencing discomfort now. I%26#039;m pretty sore in that tooth area. I couldn%26#039;t afford to do it all at once so I will be getting my crown soon. I%26#039;m pretty sure you%26#039;ll require the same.

Most nights i have the same dream, im told its a common one. I dream my teeth are cracking up and falling out, its so real, i can run my tongue over my gums and just feel broken jagged teeth. Its horrific!!

Okay so since I was little, I have always had bad teeth. I went to the dentist every six months, brushed, flossed got fluoride but I always had cavities. Since I have become an adult, I have had major problems particularly that my teeth keep breaking. And it isn%26#039;t like I am gnawing on a bone or something; they have broken on things like a hamburger or chicken breast. This week I had the cap break in half on one of my teeth that had broken years earlier on cereal (CEREAL!!!). Now I have to have a new cap on it and a root canal. I have had many other root canals, an apicoectomy, two abscessed teeth where I had to have a second root canals...the list goes on and on! I read on one post here that there may be some kind of disease that causes weak teeth...anyone knows the name of this disease or any other suggestions as to my dental woes? As dental insurance SUCKS, it seems like I may have to take out a second loan on my house to pay for this so any info would help.

Has the dentist been able to assess the blood flow and nerves?

Broken tooth?
I%26#039;ve got a bit of a problem.........I had this tooth in the bottom right hand side, three from the back that got a big filling in it a few years ago. Anyway, about an hour ago I was eating a toffee and the filling came out, but it took most of my tooth with it.......
Now the tooth is pretty much broken right down to the gum, there%26#039;s one edge still there, but the rest of the tooth is gone. I%26#039;ve got an appointment in a few weeks at the dentist to get some fillings in other teeth, can I just leave this tooth until then? After the root canal, you%26#039;ll probably need a post along with a crown. A crown replaces the broken off part of the tooth; the post holds it onto the remaining root.
Here%26#039;s the best part. Comprehensive dental insurance pays about 80%of the root canal, but only 50% of the rest. A crown can cost anywhere from $500 to $1000. And they%26#039;ll slap you with a deductible, and you may hit an out-of-pocket limit.
Some dentists will put you on antibiotics right away. You may want to go that route if you can otherwise wait. The antibiotics can make a differences byhelping fight off the possible abscess, and the dentist may want you to come in for a temporary filling.

Your Dentist will suggest you have a root canal done. I wouldn%26#039;t do that. It is VERY expensive, painful, and they only last so long. Also, the crown that they put on will be bigger than the other teeth, and usually doesnt match. Problems with crowns are common.
I would go with an implant. It might be more than a root canal, but it will be for all intents and purposes, a real tooth. Not only that, but you will never again have a problem with that tooth, as it will not decay and cannot fall out since it is anchored into the jaw.

He may be able to help you over the phone. If you like tech and have a digital camera in Macro exposure and if he agrees, send him a photo that he could see the extention of damage.
Reply:Get it fixed ASAP. This happened to me, i left it, and it got infected. Its all sorted now though after alot of pain and suffering.

Broken gerbil tooth!?
Okay. So I have two gerbils. My dad dropped one of them about three feet. My gerbil%26#039;s tooth got bent back inside his mouth. My mom won%26#039;t take him to the vet, she doesn%26#039;t think it%26#039;s that important. She thinks it%26#039;s silly to take a little gerbil to a doctor. This happened like six months ago, and my gerbil seems fine. I would have asked then, but I wasn%26#039;t old enough. How do the dentist pull teeth that are broken off in the gum.what should i do i am scared of the dentist.?
If it%26#039;s broken at the gum because of decay fracture, they quite often don%26#039;t need to cut the gum, or make an incision.
Two weeks ago, I had the procedure done.
Numb your tooth area with the numbing gell
Inject local anesthetic into the area
Wait until it begins to take effect (if it%26#039;s on the lower jaw, you will feel numb along the base of your jaw, and halfway along your lip, depending what side). If it%26#039;s along your top jaw, your dentist will prod the area with a metal instrument, and you should feel no pain at all, after a few minutes. If not numb sufficiently, tell dentist and he/she will inject more local anesthetic.
Genrally if broken at the gum, and if it%26#039;s a molar- the hole is quite large, and large enough for them to use a %26#039;lever%26#039; tool which slides in neatly around the gum and tooth to %26#039;lever%26#039; it out. If the tooth doesn%26#039;t come out easily, after rocking it side to side and twisting it with these special %26#039;lever%26#039; tools, they will attempt to break the tooth into three sections.
They crack the remaining tooth with a special little screwdriver looking thing, (of course you don%26#039;t feel anything as it%26#039;s totally numb!) and once cracked, the tooth usually gives way, as the pressure of having it cracked into three parts allows more room for them to be pulled out by plyer looking things.
You will feel pressure. No pain.
The pressure is just like someone holding their thumb, or something over your tooth.
There%26#039;s nothing that can make the pressure go away, but it%26#039;s fine. Really!
(I was absolutley terrified of going to the dentist, but now i%26#039;ve had 8 dental surgeries in a month, and i%26#039;m totally cool about it now. Don%26#039;t even get nervous!)
Once they get the tooth out, you%26#039;ll be asked to bite on a wad of guaze, and yes it will bleed. If it%26#039;s not a wisdom tooth, they prefer not to stitch the %26#039;socket%26#039; up.
3 of My molars (not wisdom teeth) were removed recently and I didn%26#039;t have stitches.
Genrally, because the hole / socket it quite large for cracked at gum teeth, the blod clot may fall out (gross as it sounds, sorry). This is okay, (if it%26#039;s on the top jaw). The blood flow to the upper jaw is great, and will usually replenish itself in a few minutes.
If you have pain three or so days after the extraction, you might have a condition called %26#039;dry socket%26#039;. This is when the blood clot hasn%26#039;t formed, or has fallen out, and not healed itself. It%26#039;s nothing serious to your health, it just hurts. Call dentist if after 72 hours pain increases.
Once the anesthetic wears off (three hours after extraction, or so) you should have mild pain, nothing too bad. Painkillers should do the trick.
(I didn%26#039;t have to take any after mine, so it%26#039;s okay!)
Please note that dry socket on the upper jaw is very rare, because of the greater blood flow.
Don%26#039;t freak out too much.

My teeth are breaking?
ever since i had my 4th kid my teeth are breaking. not the front my back teeth. my front teeth are great. i dont know what is causing it. my hemoglobin is 14.6 and that was taken 3 days after i had a 2 in a half week long menstrual cycle. i weigh 127 and in am 5%26#039;3. my youngest son he had problems with his teeth something about calcium. i took my prenatal when i was only 5 weeks pregnant. my mom told me to take 2 intsead of one but i was scared that i would me and the baby. so i didnt listen to her. she says my teeth are breaking because i had so many kids. i brush my teeth at leat 3 times a day. and for my broken teeth should i get them pulled or get a crown. what is the difference between a fake tooth and a crown. and what are my other options. i seriously doubt they can put a filling on them because half of the tooth is gone.

Broken tooth and wisdom tooth extraction...scared!?
So I haven%26#039;t been to the dentist in about 7 or 8 years because my family never had insurance and I never had anything majorily wrong with my teeth. Well about a year and a half ago my top left wisdom tooth started growing in and its kinda stopped now. It doesn%26#039;t hurt or cause me any problems but it isn%26#039;t fully grown in. My teeth are already kinda scrunched together as it is. Well this morning I woke up and the tooth on my top left (where my wisdom tooth is coming in) not the molar next to the wisdom but the 2nd to last one, the corner of is is loose and it feels like it broke but the piece is still attached. The tooth doesn%26#039;t hurt or anything it%26#039;s just annoying. Well anyways I called an oral surgeon and I have an appointment Monday to have an evaluation and then I might get my wisdom teeth pulled next week.
So the question is...what should I expect from getting my teeth pulled? And what should i eat since my tooth is broken.

i wouldnt be scared about the surgery, they anesthitise you so you dont feel it. it is sore for 5 days after, but it will hurt worse it you leave it as is...

By oral surgery, do you mean, put to sleep for it? If so, than yes. They will get you nice %26amp; numb and take out the tooth and you can be completley awake for it. Often times, dentists will refer doesn%26#039;t like removing teeth or it will be a difficult tooth to remove %26amp; they%26#039;d rather have a specialist do it. You can meet with the oral surgeon %26amp; discuss either being awake or being asleep. Hope this answers your question. Good Luck!

This is something left best to a dentist. You may not have to have actual oral SURGERY but you probably will have to have a root canal for the decay and some other probing type dental work for the broken tooth or teeth. Bacteria living in the mouth can and will multiply exponentially and could very well cause serious mouth diseases and even heart problems later on if this problem is not handled quickly. Broken Tooth?
I think that one of my teeth is broken or at least part of it has broke off, it is one of my teeth on the top row it is the back of the tooth. Part of the tooth feels sharp, but I am in no pain...at all. It is one of my molars just up from the wisdom teeth on the top right side. I am very particular with my teeth, brushing and flossing them at least twice a day. I have not seen a dentist in close to 10 years. If a tooth is really broken or chipped shouldn%26#039;t there be pain involved? If a small chip has broken off is it cause to see a dentist if there is not any pain involved? I despise going to the dentist and do not want to go unless there is something threatening to the tooth, and I have always heard that if there is something wrong with a tooth then it is going to hurt. At least that has been my experience. Can someone that knows shed some light on this subject?

My recommendation is to go to the dentist and get it pulled. That would be a lot less painful and a lot less expensive than a root canal and the crown you%26#039;d need after.
Getting it pulled is not so bad with Novocaine, and many dentists will even give you anesthesia. Good luck.

However, the dentin is what the enamel covers and protects from bacteria and wear...it is relatively soft...something like the difference between lead and copper. You should have it checked and a filling applied if it is exposed...otherwise, in a year or two, you will be looking at having a root canal....$70-90 for a filling now or $600 for a root canal later...in either case, you will have to pay for Xrays...about $30 for a bite wing....or $75 for a full panorama of the whole mouth.

Can i use my bleaching trays for my teeth as a substitute for my broken retainers?
I recently just broke my bottom wired retainer and my teeth are feeling sore since i havent been able to wear my retainers for 2 weeks now. I had my braces taken off over 10 years ago and ive been wearing them every three nights. I have a pair of customized bleeching trays that fit over my teeth perfectly. They look similar to the invisalign clear retainers but i think its made out of a thinner material. Do you think that these bleeching trays will hold my teeth in place until i get a new pair of retainers. Also since i need new retainers would you suggest i get the invisalign retainer instead of the old fashioned wired ones. How much are invisalign retainers and are they easier to clean. thanks

your orthodontist can make you hard plastic retainers...it would be silly for you to get invisaline for retainers because that will set you back thousands of dollars. Invisaline is made to move teeth. Your bleaching tray is soft and pliable so I would not use them as retainers because your teeth will shift...but I guess if that is all you have in the mean time it couldn%26#039;t hurt to try until you get others. I am sure if you call your orthodontist he will fabricate a new one for you...it only takes a day or so to make.

Reply:as you know, after you get your braces off you taper how much time you spend having the retainer. you%26#039;re supposed to have the retainer in at night, practically, for the rest of your life.
for the weekend you should be fine. 3 years is quite a bit of time and you shouldn%26#039;t have any problem. i%26#039;d be more concerned if you just gotten your braces off.
but make sure you go!!!! i had a patient lose his retainer and three years of braces was wasted in a matter of a couple of weeks after.

Can your teeth move if permament retainer has broken after 3 years?
Yes your teeth can always move if there is any space between them, every time you chew you put pressure on them. I can%26#039;t answer if he will put another one on that is up to him.
Reply:Wha??? How in the hell did you break a permanant retainer? Yes they can move, but if you%26#039;re getting a new one on Monday there is nothing to worry about. They don%26#039;t start to shift that fast.
Reply:as you know, after you get your braces off you taper how much time you spend having the retainer. you%26#039;re supposed to have the retainer in at night, practically, for the rest of your life.
for the weekend you should be fine. 3 years is quite a bit of time and you shouldn%26#039;t have any problem. i%26#039;d be more concerned if you just gotten your braces off.
but make sure you go!!!! i had a patient lose his retainer and three years of braces was wasted in a matter of a couple of weeks after.
please, go to the dentist on monday.

Yesterday a cat(i dont know) scratched me with its teeth no skin broken u cant see anything no mark...?
i think ill be fine but when a cat bites u and lets say they have a disease u should get an infection right? who knows any signs to anything bad. I feel fine and im just paranoid i think its my neighbors cat cause ive seen it around their a lot and ive pet it before. the cat seems fine i saw it today just laying down. yesterday i cleaned the area scratched by the cats teeth. i was petting it it was purring but when it turned over i was going to pet its belly but that when it tried to bite me.

If you have no cut and no mark from the bite, you have nothing to worry about. If the skin was broken and the wound became red and you developed pain and swelling, then you have an infection.

when petting a cat, watch out for twiches on their tail and when they wag their tail... it means they want to hunt. and your moving hands are the closest target. =) my cat does that to me. =)
Reply:relaaxxxx tripper! if there isnt even broken skin then how would you get a desease or an infection?? If there is no place for the infection to enter your blood stream then there is no need to trip.
