Broken tooth?

I%26#039;ve got a bit of a problem.........I had this tooth in the bottom right hand side, three from the back that got a big filling in it a few years ago. Anyway, about an hour ago I was eating a toffee and the filling came out, but it took most of my tooth with it.......





Now the tooth is pretty much broken right down to the gum, there%26#039;s one edge still there, but the rest of the tooth is gone. I%26#039;ve got an appointment in a few weeks at the dentist to get some fillings in other teeth, can I just leave this tooth until then? It doesn%26#039;t hurt, and I can%26#039;t really take any more time of work, I%26#039;ve already had time off recently to go to the doctors.

When you go to see the dentist, he will precribe a root canal to prevent the tooth from abscessing, which if untreated results in a lot of pain, pus, and potential bone loss to the jaw (not a good thing, considering there are other teeth nearby).





After the root canal, you%26#039;ll probably need a post along with a crown. A crown replaces the broken off part of the tooth; the post holds it onto the remaining root.





Here%26#039;s the best part. Comprehensive dental insurance pays about 80%of the root canal, but only 50% of the rest. A crown can cost anywhere from $500 to $1000. And they%26#039;ll slap you with a deductible, and you may hit an out-of-pocket limit.





Some dentists will put you on antibiotics right away. You may want to go that route if you can otherwise wait. The antibiotics can make a differences byhelping fight off the possible abscess, and the dentist may want you to come in for a temporary filling.

Reply:You can wait as long as it doesn%26#039;t get infected or start hurting. If it starts to hurt, it will not be pleasant or bearable. Just go to the dentist as soon as you can.

Reply:I would at least call my dentist and let them know..they may want to see you earlier and or put you on an antibiotic for possible infection..try not to put too much pressure on that side..and gargle with warm salt water and keep that area clean.

Reply:If it is broken as badly as you describe it to be, then I%26#039;d say it will most like have to be pulled. BUT I%26#039;m not a dentist so I would say go see your dentist NOW, not in two weeks.
Reply:go see your dentist, in all matter%26#039;s put your self befor work, if they think they can rule you they will, the only thing they can do is put you under pressure to keep on until you drop, get your self another job
Reply:you will need to contact the dentist to let him know what happened. it can cause cavities that can damage the teeth they were going to work on. it may not hurt now but it will. they may be able to save it and put a filling in it. if not most often the same day they can contact a oral surgeon to pull it in the same day and still work on the other teeth. you won%26#039;t have to take another day off then.

Your Dentist will suggest you have a root canal done. I wouldn%26#039;t do that. It is VERY expensive, painful, and they only last so long. Also, the crown that they put on will be bigger than the other teeth, and usually doesnt match. Problems with crowns are common.





I would go with an implant. It might be more than a root canal, but it will be for all intents and purposes, a real tooth. Not only that, but you will never again have a problem with that tooth, as it will not decay and cannot fall out since it is anchored into the jaw.
Reply:Been there, done that. You%26#039;ll want to get to a dentist ASAP. If the tooth can%26#039;t be saved, he%26#039;ll pull it and prescribe a course of antibiotics.

Reply:It is recommended to check with your dentist how much damaged got the tooth. He may put a temporary fix as to later do a complete job in it. Phone your dentist and describe what you got. He may be able to help you over the phone. If you like tech and have a digital camera in Macro exposure and if he agrees, send him a photo that he could see the extention of damage.
Reply:Get it fixed ASAP. This happened to me, i left it, and it got infected. Its all sorted now though after alot of pain and suffering.
Reply:As long as it is not causing pain you should be fine, just keep the area really clean until your appointment.
