My hamster has broken his top teeth, what can i give him that is soft enough for him to eat with its low teeth

I gave one of my very old infirm hamsters weetabix and milk to keep him going for a while. What you%26#039;ve got to be careful about is the fact that the bottom teeth will keep growing as well as the top, with nothing to wear them down. You may find they need cutting by a vet if they get too long before the top ones have grown back to normal. good luck.

one of your fingers
Reply:baby carrot food?
Reply:yikes, their teeth are pretty strong i hate to know how he broke his teeth. but try ygurt drops they sell them at pet stores. also try getting his food and leaving it in water to moisten up and become softer
Reply:hamsters love bugs and grubs, give him a slug or two and he%26#039;ll be happy as a pig in s***
Reply:Poor wee thing.

Hamsters do not live long( 7 years?) and it is a shame to have it lose its main means of eating.

Ask a veterinary what is best.
Reply:Cherries, peaches, pears, ect.
Reply:I currently have an elder gerbil that no longer has it%26#039;s top incisors because of age.

He eats oatmeal flakes, white bread pieces without the crust, plain mashed potatos, cooked rice and tiny bits of peanuts (like you would sprinkle onto thai food dishes). They still have their molars and are able to chew tiny bits of food, it%26#039;s the large incisors that allow them to gnaw.

The hamster%26#039;s teeth should grow back quickly but you need to make sure his bottom incisors do not become too long because there is nothing on top to make them wear down now. The best way is to have a vet trim them back.

You may be able to find a site out there that tells you how to do it yourself without harming the hamster. I trim my gerbils teeth, but I have experience doing it and wouldn%26#039;t recommend someone doing it that hasn%26#039;t at least seen a vet do it so you don%26#039;t harm the fuzzbutt.

Whatever he broke his teeth on needs to be removed so he doesn%26#039;t do it again when they grow back. If they do not grow back then you need to get him to a vet.
Reply:Take the poor little thing to the vet he might have other problems as well ,like who knocked his teeth out ?
Reply:You%26#039;ll need to have regular check ups to make sure his bottom teeth don%26#039;t cause problems, as there teeth grow constantly, but using the normal pellet food slightly soaked should help him to chew.
Reply:Unless his teeth have completely fallen out he%26#039;ll be fine. Hampsters%26#039; teeth grow continuosly through their lives. Other wise offer him some softened pelleted food but be sure to change daily or it%26#039;ll mold.
Reply:my old hamster used to love veg......especially lettuce. i think he thought he was a rabbit! try slightly cooking some harder fruit and veg to make it easier to eat (give it to him cold tho). also yoghurt dropps seem to be loved by all hamsters!

his teeth should grow back if they have merely been chipped.
Reply:Try a small amount of dog food or put his food in water to make is soft
Reply:try soaking his normal food in water before you feed him as changing his diet may be a bad idea- hamster foods are created to have the right mix of nutrients to maintain their coats etc. so may give him an upset stomach- especially by giving baby food which may have a higher salt content and result in worse problems than a broken tooth! would also recommend a vet visit to ensure the broken tooth isnt too sharp, which could cause gum discomfort as they grow back.
Reply:pureed fruit or jars of vegetable based baby food
Reply:Give him naturall yogert, its what it say%26#039;s in the book.My hamster loves it.
